Reading Cafe
In 2009 the City of Leipzig issued a call for tenders for the design of a new Catholic church. The Leipzig-based architectural firm Schulz und Schulz won the contract. In 2013 a group of parishioners initiated a project to plan a community room in the foyer, owing to the fact that no such space had been planned in the initial call for tenders. The Lesecafé (“The Reading Café”) is an open space for dialogue, where gatherings, workshops and conferences can be held. Like the stage of a theatre, this area had to be adaptable to suit the requirements of various types of events. A curtain that was specially designed and produced for the Lesecafé divides the large space into smaller units as required. Thanks to the quality of its material, the curtain also provides for excellent acoustics. This is particularly important for conferences and readings.
