The Kunstkraftwerk, Leipzig’s new cultural centre, needed a design shop as an interim solution for the visitors who come to the centre on a daily basis.

The aim of the project was to divide the foyer room into separate islands made of blocks. Visitors could then move between these islands, stopping to look at and touch the products on display.

The blocks are made of polyethylene, and their surfaces (both internal and external) have been printed to resemble Lecce stone, giving the islands a monolithic appearance. The sizes of the blocks vary, making it possible to piece them together in different constellations, like Legos.
